By SY (aka Hospitalera), on December 21st, 2009 Why I am not participating in this Seo contest
Promojunkie has announced the keyword phrase and the rules for their next SEO contest, starting the 18th December 2009 and finishing the 18th March 2010. I was actually looking forward to it. I mean, it would have been great fun to actually start at the start and not 3 weeks close to the dead line But there are a few points that prevented me from submitting my entry.
Your mileage may vary, so if you want to try to catch the $1000, that they offer as first price, start here: PromoJunkie SEO Contest
In case you are still in doubt, here my some of my main and minor reasons not to participate in this seo contest:
The keyword phrase does make sense.
Now, that sounds like an advantage at first sight. Instead of having . . . → Read More: Why I am not participating in this Seo contest
By SY (aka Hospitalera), on December 15th, 2009 So, now it is official, I didn’t win the Oes Tsetnoc Seo Contest, instead I ended up on place 21 (give or take a few, depending on your Google location). Before writing up my mistakes, failures and shortcomings, first of all my sincere congratulations to the three winners:
First Place: Handsome from http://www.oestsetnoc.com/
Second Place: Hellas from http://www.oestsetnocs.com/
Third Place: Phreakaholic from http://phreakaholic.com/indonesia/oes-tsetnoc/
And obviously also a special Thank You to decipher from PromoJunkie for running the contest. I benefited enormously from participating in it. Not only by getting more back links to my blog in general, but also by observing and learning more about SEO.
It all boiled down to content+back links in the end. Here some interesting stats:
My entry: Content, hence also indexed in Google: 1 meagre page, back links to that page . . . → Read More: How not to win a SEO contest

Health Update
Thanks again to everybody that left a comment on my shortest blog post ever (I was really not in my sane mind as I posted that one, I even messed up the url ;-() It turned out not to be the real flu (thanks God) but “just” a very nasty cold. I am feeling better by now and managed today to approve / review / answer all comments on my blog. Next thing, after publishing this blog post, is to visit all my favourite blogs and catch up with things in the blogosphere! So, yes, I am back
Seo Contest Update
Regarding the Oes Tsetnoc, I am still lingering around on place 20 and, bearing in mind that the contest finishes tomorrow, I have a very slim chance to win anything unless Google does one of . . . → Read More: Seo Contest and Health Update
By SY (aka Hospitalera), on December 9th, 2009 Actually I am not sure if it is just a simple cold or the flu, but I feel awful! Will post again when feeling better, take care, SY

By SY (aka Hospitalera), on December 6th, 2009 Hi, I am back home and can you update now on the captcha situation that caused the problem so that nobody was able to comment on my blog.
First of all I am sure imHuman captcha is based on a great idea and the malfunctioning was most likely caused by an incompatibility with one or more other plugins I am using. And there is the catch for me! This blog is about blogging, tech stuff included. I often use plugins and then write a blog post about them as I did here: Blogging Tools. And that involves installing and using and testing and evaluating new plugins I come accross and that might be useful for my readers — you. So, I simply can’t risk that a new plugin upsets an old one, the plugin that doesn’t play well along with the others gets send outside until it learns to . . . → Read More: Update image captcha
By SY (aka Hospitalera), on December 6th, 2009 Thanks to everybody that alerted my by email etc to the fact that the captcha didn’t work properly again and didn’t let you post! I will write personal thank you emails etc later, have to run now. SY
PS Promised, this captcha is gone for good!

By SY (aka Hospitalera), on December 3rd, 2009 Time to say Good-Bye!
No, not to blogging nor the oes tsetnoc contest (I am now on place 21 btw ;-(), but to my latest plugin! Remember the cute images you had to select to verify that you are a human and to be able to submit your comment? I discovered this morning that it stopped working, reason being the plugin site itself was down. So I disabled it and waited patiently.
Some hours later and Elxsy was up again. No, nothing on their blog what had happened and no answer to a comment I made on their own blog. Now, if a plugin only works, when another site is up, then something is not right in my books. Especially as this malfunction meant, that nobody was able to post any comments until I disabled the ImHuman plugin. I tried, as the plugin site came . . . → Read More: Time to say Good-Bye
By SY (aka Hospitalera), on November 27th, 2009 They are gone, they are really gone!
Some days a go I started a draft with this words:
To say I am furious is putting it mildly, I am steaming, boiling, fiery furious! Yesterday evening I did a bit of research to find out in how many dofollow lists / directories etc this blog shows up. The result was rather frightening! But what really got my blood pressure up to life-threatening heights were comments like the one below:
“Thank you for list! I am going to send this list to immediately to my outsourced comm net spammer in [country removed]!”
I swear, at this moment I was really one millimeter from setting this blog back to nofollow or even worse to not allow links in comments at all. But that wouldn’t be fair to those who actually read my blog posts and leave valuable comments! My readers So, I looked . . . → Read More: How to get rid of blog spammers? SO!

PS Just (28th November) posted an update
By SY (aka Hospitalera), on September 29th, 2009 I will be away most of October, so no new blog posts during that time. Also comments have to wait until I have, occasional, internet access. All should be back to normal in November. If you don’t want to miss anything, just subscribe, for free, to my blog (top right corner) and new posts will be delivered directly to your inbox, free and without spam. SY

By SY (aka Hospitalera), on September 22nd, 2009 OK, ever since Andrew NG wrote this guest blog Brand: [insert name here] I am sorely reminded that I don’t have a decent “about me” page. To make things even worse, none of my many online profiles has a good one. I know that I am missing out big time, but I hate sooo much writing about myself. So more interesting stuff to write about then tiny, unimportant, privacy-loving me.
So here you come in, my beloved, dearest, most cherished and so on readers. I need your help! What would you like to know about me? What do you think a “decent about me” page should contain? What would be a good replacement for a portrait photo (I do love my privacy, did I mention that?)
Ask, make suggestions, help me, pretty please! SY
PS I know only one thing, I will NOT . . . → Read More: Please, I need your help!!!
By SY (aka Hospitalera), on September 13th, 2009 Time for another WBSD (World Blog Surf Day) and also time to celebrate my 100th blog post. Ok, a lot of the long time, hard working and so on internet marketers will sneer at this small blogging milestone. But nevertheless, I think, for me it is a reason to celebrate! Bearing in mind hat my hyperactive brain makes it difficult for me to concentrate and stick to it, posting so regularly and sticking more or less to the main theme of this blog which is “blogging”, it IS an achievement for me. So what have I achieved over the last seven months that this blog is active?
99 100 blog posts published 1440+ comments published on this blog, the ones of readers and my responses to those PR4, for what it is worth Alexa Rank <80 000, showing that I target the right group of people 100 . . . → Read More: WBSD and 100th post
By SY (aka Hospitalera), on August 2nd, 2009 This will be a short blog post but for some of my readers a surprising one. I am coming out! No, not exactly the way you think, I am coming out as being a Christian and a Make Money Online blogger. Making money online the Christian way, is that possible? I personally think it is. I think you can make money online the honest way, without misleading anybody for personal profit. Not to sell products just for the commission or to recommend something just to gain a benefit. For a long time I kept my online life and my Christian life apart, mostly because of being a Christian is a hugely unpopular thing to be on the internet. But I decided against this cautious approach because I want to be the same person online that I am in real life – a Christian that makes money by writing about methods . . . → Read More: Coming out as a Christian blogger
By SY (aka Hospitalera), on July 26th, 2009 ….and why I am not using Akismet
Bloggers matutinal joy, grabbing coffee and weeding spammers out! That is how every single day starts for me, killing spam comments. Apart when I was on holidays / vacations and didn’t have regular internet access. I went one time a week to an internet cafe and did a mass killing. Joy, oh, joy, 500 comments to go through, to weed and mostly to delete. At the moment I guess this blog has around 10% genuine comments and 90% spammers. So let me explain what I consider a spam comment, how I handle comment moderation and perhaps, just perhaps, one or two of my regular spammers won’t bother to come back! Woman can dream…
When I do my first visit of the day to my blog dashboard, I find typically around 20-30 comments in the moderation queue. I will delete everything that was obviously . . . → Read More: How I handle comments -and spammers
